About My Clients
Do you feel you are surviving not living? When you are having difficulty engaging in your desired life because anxiety is getting in the way, you might need some extra support & there is no shame in asking for help. It's extremely common to need extra support with tough emotions, when constantly in your head thinking of all the "what ifs", or when not making the progress you'd would like with your current outpatient provider. Don't lose hope, you are stronger than you know.
My Background and Approach
Specifically, I have extensive training in Cognitive-Behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), and Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP). I received my BA in Psychology and Spanish from Trinity University in San Antonio and my MA in Clinical Psychology from the University of Houston – Clear Lake. Before transitioning into private practice, I worked as the residential manager/outpatient therapist at the McLean OCD Institute//Houston where I oversaw the provision of care to clients in both the Intensive Outpatient Program and the Residential Support Program. Despite my training, YOU are the boss of your treatment. I am here to help you get to where you want to be. Of course, I will make my professional recommendations and you will make the final decision as to how you want to move forward. You will learn how to identify your values in life and live according to them instead of your anxiety so when you look back you will have no regrets.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
One of my main goals in life is to increase mental health accessibility for underrepresented minority populations and to decrease the stigma in those populations. I see going to therapy the same as going to your PCP for your annual check up. One quote that resonates with me is “I think it’s really important to take the stigma away from mental health… My brain and my heart are really important to me. I don’t know why I wouldn’t seek help to have those things be as healthy as my teeth?” from Kerry Washington and I agree with her wholeheartedly. I'm also a die-hard Dallas cowboys fan, but please don't hold that against me.
