Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) is one of my favorite therapeutic modalities because it addresses unspoken body language to help identify, express and uncover emotions. In grad school we read several books and had a class dedicated to learning about IPT. Throughout my professional career I have taken it upon myself to continue to read and to learn about IPT, the Gottman Method and Trauma therapy.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most commonly used therapeutic modalities. CBT suggests that our thoughts, behaviors and feelings are intwined with one another. CBT is my most commonly used therapeutic modality as a result of having many supervisors teaching through CBT models in the past. I love using CBT to bring awareness and to help change peoples' thought processes, self talk and false beliefs about themselves.

I received the ACT certificate while in grad school stating that all addiction coursework to receive a license in addiction counseling was successfully completed. Upon graduation, I sat for both an oral and written exam to be able to become a licensed drug and alcohol counselor (LCADC) in the state of New Jersey.

I have been working in substance use counseling for the past five years facilitating individual therapy, family therapy and group therapy. In New Jersey, I obtained the ACT certificate through completing all necessary addiction coursework, passed both the written and oral exams to be able to become a licensed drug and alcohol counselor upon graduating a masters program.

For the past two years I have been working with children ages 3-18 struggling with parental issues, family conflicts, mental illness, suicidal ideations and addiction. I completed the necessary coursework to be able to work with this population and in this role, it appeared that I was most effective with adolescents coping with family issues, addiction and mental illness.

Relationships, marital issues and family conflicts overlap many other areas of specialities in therapy which is what has made them so prevalent in my career. I have facilitated family therapy regarding parental issues, child concerns and adolescent issues and I have facilitated family therapy for families in crisis as a result of addiction. I have facilitated couples therapy utilizing the Gottman Method regarding communication concerns, infidelity and parenting styles.
