About My Clients

Life can be hard, complicated and unpredictable. Relaxing can feel impossible at times. You might feel like your thoughts are always negative or spiraling out of control, or you're always tense or can't seem to stay in the moment for things that are "supposed" to be enjoyable. Some of us don't know why we feel this way and could use guidance to identify the underlying reasons. Others of us feel like "I already know where my issues come from, what do I DO about it?" and need concrete strategies.

My Background and Approach

My approach to therapy focuses on helping you learn to relax, reduce the impact of negative thoughts, savor the joyful things in life, and live in alignment with your values. In therapy with me you will learn concrete strategies to improve your life while also having time to just "talk it out" in a warm and supportive environment. I hold doctorate and master's degrees in clinical psychology and am experienced treating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges and many other difficulties. I am also trained to treat Hoarding Disorder. I primarily use a type of therapy called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in my practice which involves learning to live in the present, not get wrapped up in negative thoughts, live by our values and spend more time enjoying life.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

As a therapist, I believe that our difficulties do not only stem from "inside" our own brains--they are often a logical reaction to our circumstances. These circumstances might be an unhealthy living situation, a challenging relationship, and/or something broader like racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia or other systems of oppression. I believe that the unequal treatment of marginalized peoples in our society often results in chronic stress and psychological suffering. Thus, it is critical to take into account each client's individual life experiences, identities, and experiences of oppression to fully understand what contributes to their psychological suffering. Doing this allows us to work through these experiences, channel our energy toward changing what we can, and find ways to heal and thrive amongst the things we cannot change (at least not right away!).
