About My Clients

My Background and Approach
As a play therapist, I always asked my clients’ moms about their perinatal experiences because of the impact of that period on feeling connected. But I found myself feeling confused when mothers would say “I didn’t like breastfeeding” or “I couldn’t wait to get back to work” until I became a mother. It was only then that I realized not even a doctorate in counseling could have prepared me for motherhood. Motivated by my own experience, I specialized in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. I also discovered that the physical and psychosocial changes that happen during the perinatal period can trigger other thoughts and feelings that may have been overlooked for years. Sometimes this means more strain in your current relationships. I use EMDR to address those thoughts and feelings that contribute to postpartum stress and overwhelm.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I work with my clients to find coping skills that will work for them and give them tools that address their sadness and anxiety. I also offer a space where new parents can unburden themselves without fear of judgment. I am very familiar and sensitive to the needs of perinatal parents and I show my commitment to them by providing education and accessible care. I educate parents thorough Perinatal Wellness Workshops in the community and teach counselors-in-training the unique needs of parents during this time in their lives. I offer accessible care by holding online sessions and accepting several major insurances.
