About My Clients
I welcome clients who fear that their story is too heavy a burden to share, or who find themselves in a struggle that they feel overwhelmed by. Trauma comes out as panic, feeling disconnected and numb, powerful feelings of anger and guilt, or substance use. I hope to help you unburden yourself from that deeply held pain through a combination of gentle exploration, learning to manage day-to-day, and finding purpose and direction.
My Background and Approach
My experience has taught me that there are different paths to work through the traumas we carry. We will work together to determine what methods allow you to make progress while maintaining safety and trust. While this looks different for each client, there are two general processes we will work on at the same time. One is helping your mind and body learn to gently unravel themselves from the past. And the other is learning to manage the daily impact of what you're struggling with and take greater control of your life. Since my early days as a therapist my work has been rooted in understanding the full range of what trauma can be and how it impacts our brains and our bodies. This has been built up through specialized trainings ranging from tried-and-true approaches, to modern advances in our understanding of stress and trauma. I bring together this education along with my hands-on experience to be a therapist who is engaged and flexible in sessions.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that nearly all of us are born with an innate desire for the safety to learn, connect, and experience beauty in all its forms. I also believe that when that safety is impaired, our ability to prioritize those positive things can be too. We find new ways to protect ourselves that make it harder to listen to those innate desires. But I also know from experience that we have it within us to find our way back and listen to what we need once again. I have seen this in my clients and in myself. I believe it is important to use my expertise to contribute to my communities. I provide presentations building awareness for mental health issues and providing guidance on how people can go about supporting one another and accessing the help they need. I also do volunteer work with the unhoused/homeless. I am an ally to those in the LGBTQ+ community, including people who are non-binary, and on the aro/ace spectrum. I believe love and relationships can look different for different people.
