Counselor in McKinney, TX
I specialize in the treatment of adverse reactions to traumatic events; possible reactions include high stress, nightmares related to the event, flashbacks of the event, feeling “on-guard” or “jumpy”, and more. For treatment of this, I provide options such as EMDR and Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, among others.
I have training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which is all about the linkage among thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This type of therapy focuses on thought processing. A better way of thinking is the goal because it will lead to improved mood and healthy behaviors.
Globally, I work with stress in various ways. I believe that stress is the active agent in many mood disorders like depression and anxiety. When you feel overwhelmed with work, family, and life in general, you may notice emerging symptoms of depression or anxiety. If you have a history of childhood trauma that was never treated, you may notice it resurfacing when stressed. I use thought processing and problem solving strategies to treat the root of the problem.
I work with people who struggle with OCD and find it hard to live a healthy life. My goal is to learn more about your complex struggles to find a new path filled with self-awareness, new tools, and hope. My modality of treatment involves exploration of your thoughts, acceptance of yourself and the world, a mindful existence, and the development of self-care. Most importantly, I use Exposure and Ritual Prevention (ERP) to safely walk with you outside of your comfort zone. It’s worth it!
There are many anxiety-related disorders I love to work with because I see real change when people find the motivation to face their fears. I focus on how avoidance plays a part in your life, then we decide how untangle your thoughts for a more mindful existence. Let’s find a balance between acceptance and change that doesn’t hinder you, but keeps you successful. The modalities used are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), ERP, and EMDR (for trauma only)
I provide ERP for people who struggle with avoidance of uncomfortable situations and emotions. ERP can be structured/unstructured in nature, but it involves education about anxiety, OCD, and panic (depending on what you struggle with). Along with education comes assessments, self-awareness, confidence building, and using tools to push yourself to face your fears.
ACT is a modality of treatment I like to utilize because it involves using your strengths as a person to develop acceptance of the world and self. In this type of therapy, it’s important to process who you REALLY are and use that knowledge as motivation.
