Play is the child's natural means of learning, communicating, and working through difficulties. I utilize structured and unstructured play in my work with children to assist them in working through difficult experiences, develop rapport with and reward for hard work in therapy. Through play, children are able to learn new ways of coping, process, and integrate difficult experiences.
As a psychodynamically oriented therapist, I work with children, adolescents, and their parents to help them develop an awareness of unconscious beliefs affecting their current functioning. Our behaviors and ways of interacting with the world are guided by these beliefs that were developed during our early lives. As we develop greater awareness of those beliefs, we are then able to work towards adapting healthier beliefs.
I am certified in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). TF-CBT helps children, adolescent, and their parents who have experienced trauma, understand the difficulties they may be experiencing in the aftermath of trauma, develop new ways to cope with emotional dysregulation, process and integrate traumatic memories. In TF-CBT parents play an integral role in their children's healing process and our partners in the therapeutic process.
I specialize in the treatment of sexual abuse with children, adolescents, and their parents. Sexual abuse can be a devastating experience for victims and their families. Healing is possible with the right support and services. I utilize Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help children, adolescents and their parents learn to cope with and heal the wounds of sexual abuse. I am a former therapist of the internationally renowned UCLA-Stuart House, for the treatment of sexual abuse.
