Your desire to seek support and guidance as you make massive changes isn't about me but rather it's about whether or not we'd be a good fit.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker in White Plains, NY
Anxiety is a helpful coping tool for short periods of time; unfortunately for many it lingers too long and takes over too much of life. I seek to change that and together we find what works for you.
Normalizing the life transitions we all go through as well as helping my clients chart a course for how to manage them is part of the work of getting to a new place; this is a frequent theme in my work.
While a good number of my clients walk in the door due to issues with using and their past efforts with recovery, we often find there are other issues to work through as well, such as life transitions and anxiety.
Just as my work in the addiction field is anything but typical, my work around nearly every other issue that I work on with clients is also approached from a very client centered place. I believe my responsibility to you is to hold space, be present and share with you what science & experience have taught us. The growing awareness is sometimes tough to sit with but you'll have company as you get comfortable with the new information you're living with.
Seeking out support to move away from using or other destructive behaviors can be daunting; it can be hard to find a good fit even when you're feeling ready to make the leap into changing. I'm not the most typical therapist in the field ~ I'm here to support you, offer up choices and options, look for patterns in what's happening in your life and recovery efforts. I'm not here to tell you there's only one way to do 'this.' There is no magic formula ~ let's find what works for you.
We often think of PTSD has something that 'other' people are diagnosed with but not, you know, 'regular' people...or so we think. Most people have had traumatic events in their lifetimes but for some, the impact is both far reaching and deeply set into their psyche ~ and that's not their fault. The coping tools used to initially manage the impact of the event might not work over time ~ and that's when people seek help. I also work with Complex PTSD, trauma which often starts at a younger age.
