About My Clients

I find myself often working with clients who want to heal from interpersonal injury, self-doubt, and despair. My clients and I are often moving through discussions around self-compassion, self-exploration, cultural-identities, and systemic influences.

My Background and Approach

My interest in specializing in sociocultural and systemic perspectives in addressing mental health issues led me to completing a doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology. I very much believe that the “personal is political.” It is my hope that we can hold space for curiosity and compassion to examine parts of ourselves that need tending to. Whether we are hurt or caused hurt, there is a place to understand ourselves on a deeper level. I find that if we can, that that’s where growth/healing can take place. My role in all of this is to offer you the space to be explorative and collaborate with you to find ways to do so. I realize it takes trust and safety to seek my support. Therefore, I’ll intentional with checking-in on how this process is feeling for you. If you feel stuck in it, I’ll try my best to help you through that. My approach pulls from various interventions either steeped in Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Relational Approaches, and/or Feminist frameworks.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I’ve lived in the United States for over a decade now and as an immigrant, the question of “who am I?” has gotten complex and interesting. Without trying to simplify my identities and background, I’ll say that my beliefs are a collective of the multitude of cultures, history, and people I come from. I moved from my home country, Malaysia to pursue an education here and have since decided to stay for the time being. Kansas City is home to me now as much as Kuala Lumpur is. My queer identity is ever evolving and changing as I learn more about myself and others. I'm also active in connecting with other international/immigrant identifying therapists. I believe that as providers, we need to be active in advocating for change and fighting against systemic oppression that impacts our lives and well-being.
