About My Clients
I love working with individual adults and teens (16yo and up) who are wanting to create more space for themselves in their world. That could look like finding new ways to rest, identifying triggers and tools to safely feel big emotions, learning to effectively communicate in relationships, exploring alignment and safety in your identity, getting your basic needs met, and so much more. Part of my work with teens includes parent/guardian education and outside resourcing for additional support.
My Background and Approach
I believe we all exist in a myriad of systems - our families, our chosen families, our workplaces, our larger society -- and there is a whole lot that ties us to those systems: resilience and pain, tradition and frustration, empowerment and disappointment, joy and stress. Those nuances offer us the brevity of the human experience, and they also sometimes make us feel stuck. The talk therapy I offer is intended to help you make sense of these systems and of your individual story--and to find empowerment to keep writing it in a way that feels safe and true to you. I was initially trained in cognitive and dialectical behavioral therapies, and currently practice from a narrative, liberation and solution focused lens. We'll incorporate talk therapy, emotion feeling skills, mindfulness, cultural practices and beliefs, breath work, and art into our work together. You are the driver of this car, and I'll be chilling in the passenger seat pointing out sights and directions along the way!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe as a therapist, I have the most sacred opportunity to sit in community with my clients and guide them in experiencing the most innate and true parts of themselves. I also believe that my role and identity as a human and as a therapist are both inextricably tied to the liberation of all people - of queer and trans folks, of Black, Indigenous, and people of color, of the disabled community, of women, of the global majority, of all oppressed peoples. I acknowledge that none of us are free until all of us are free, and my hope is that therapy--the process of coming home to yourself and your community--can be one tool in the fight for collective liberation. My practice, Creating Space, was born out of the desire to also create spaces for therapists of color through education, community, and dismantling of oppressive systems within the field of therapy. Outside of therapy, I love going on walks with my dog Peanut, hanging with my people, and learning new recipes to try out!
