Ashlyn Jones

My background is in a systems approach which is seeing how different parts work together to create a dynamic or a whole. This helps me see quickly what strengths are operating and what "part" may need to be adjusted to contribute toward a healthier whole. I have a MS in Counseling and a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision. When working with a client with trauma I use a blend of narrative therapy, somatic techniques and EMDR. When working with couples I use Emotionally Focused Therapy with elements of Imago therapy. My ultimate goal is that relationships to self and others grow in strength, health and meaning for those that come to me for therapy. My style tends to be direct and highly interactive with attention to how you make meaning. I listen closely to how you think and present yourself in order to understand and reflect back the perspective you are offering and how that may impact how you are approaching the issues you are facing.

I believe in empowering others with knowledge and skills and that it should be accessible to those not participating in one on one therapy. More recently, I have done community trainings on distress management and trained social workers in Kenya on three developmental assessments to use in their workplaces. In my work as a counselor educator, I believe good therapy starts in the personhood of the therapist. I am committed to the health of therapists and work within my role as a director and supervisor to promote and encourage the growth of the therapists that work for me and my past students.
