About My Clients

Are you worried you might have a problem with drugs or alcohol? Do you know that you do and you haven't reached out yet? Substance use is on a continuum, with abstinence on one end and addiction, on the other. The goal of therapy is for you to determine. You may want to examine your use, cut down, work toward quitting or even maintain positive changes you have already made. Whatever your goal, I look foward to collaborating with you in ways to reach it.

My Background and Approach

The approach I take is designed to meet you where you are, today. I incorporate a strengths-based approach with the principles of harm reduction. Compassion, pragmatism and collaboration are the cornerstones of my approach. I have many years of clinical experience in supporting individuals with alcohol and drug concerns, as well as other mental health issues. For any treatment to have the best possible change of being effective, addressing all of your concerns holistically is crucial. Where we start will be determined collaboratively, while continually having honest conversations about potential harm associated with continued use. Caring about someone struggling with substance use can be overwhelming. Due to continued stigma surrounding substance abuse and addiction, it can also feel isolating. Knowing how to help, while still feeling supported and honoring your own boundaries can be difficult to manage. I have experience in helping loved ones navigate this process.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that it is crucial to respect the choices that people make. For too long, there have been misconceptions about substance use treatment: that people had to hit rock bottom or that sobriety was the only measure of success. Or worse, that someone had to maintain sobriety to get treatment for drugs and alcohol! In many cases these beliefs are harmful. In every case, these beliefs do not put the client at the forefront of the treatment. Much of what I enjoy about this work is the opportunity to work with people from all kinds of backgrounds. Whoever you are and wherever you are on the continuum of use, you will be respected. Substance use is complex and so are you. I treat each person as an individual. If you are interested and would like to know more about how I can help, contact me for a free, 30 minute in person consultation. Whatever you facing, you don't have to face it alone.
