About My Clients
I help clients cope with psychological distress, which may originate from mental disorders, difficult life changes or interpersonal struggles. Clients learn to bring mindful attention to their thought patterns, behaviors and emotions, which empowers them to live a less reactive and more intentional life. If you are looking for a therapist that can give you space to explore your issues, but also guidance and direction when needed, I think we would be a good fit.
My Background and Approach
Nicholas started his career in human services at Northeast Treatment Centers in Philadelphia, PA where, over the course of 7 years, he worked as Youth Advocate for adjudicated adolescents, lead clinician for a community-based treatment team and outpatient therapist. After becoming a licensed psychotherapist in 2014, Nicholas worked as an outpatient therapist for multiple companies in the Philadelphia area where he helped clients manage or overcome symptoms related to anxiety, stress, trauma, depression and more.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Nicholas’ therapeutic approach is strongly rooted in humanistic psychology. As described in an article from the Association for Humanistic Psychology, this approach offers a "crucial opportunity to lead our troubled culture back to its own healthy path. More than any other therapy, Humanistic-Existential therapy models democracy. It imposes ideologies of others upon the client less than other therapeutic practices. Freedom to choose is maximized. We validate our client's human potential." As a result of the variety of issues, populations and ages he has worked with, he is equipped to help a wide-range of clients with a variety of issues. Nicholas' approach is also influenced by Buddhist and evolutionary psychology.
