About My Clients
I have experience working with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds. I tend to work with adults and I treat families, couples, and throuples. Specifically, specialize in work with members of the LGBTQ+ community, creatives, and those who hold (or who once held) deep spiritual and religious beliefs. I work best with those who are seeking growth and are open to change. Many people who have found other therapies unhelpful or limited tend to find therapy with me to be a good fit.
My Background and Approach
I tend to work with people on a consistent basis (ideally weekly) and specialize in longer-term work. I work from a depth-psychology orientation, meaning that while I am curious about your current circumstances, I also have an interest in the various influences that helped to make you who you are today. I work with the assumption that there are things you don't know about yourself, and that part of my job is, when it is helpful, to assist you in recognizing, naming, and integrating these previously unknown parts so that they are no longer simply obstructing you. The therapeutic relationship is very important in my work. Many people are concerned that therapy exists to simply to tell them what they'd like to hear. I am relational and direct in therapy and I will confront you when necessary. I also work somatically, and I integrate Reichian (orgonomic) therapy and Polyvagal theory to help my patients access deeply held emotions and learn how they hold emotions in with their bodies.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My value for integrity deeply informs the way that I work. When I refer to treating "the whole person," I do so while appreciating that we are often pressured to split off parts of ourselves for the sake of others, whether they are peers, family, faith communities, or other cultural pressures. I work to reintegrate those split off parts. I believe that we are fundamentally complex beings and that people are more than diagnoses. For one person, a given mental health issue may have biological or genetic components. For another, their symptoms may manifest due to a history of cultural or relational issues. For most people, it's a mix of both. While I do not impose my values on patients, I do make space for you to discuss moral and ethical difficulties in therapy. I am always learning, expanding, and endeavoring to practice cultural humility.
