My Background and Approach

In therapy, the relationship between therapist and client is vital. For this reason, my first priority is cultivating our relationship. I strive to help you feel safe, heard, and supported. We will begin by discussing your goals and what is bringing you in, as well as looking at what's working in your life, and what's not working. In general, my approach is both top-down (cognitive) and bottom-up (body-based or somatic), because I know trauma and stress affect both the mind and the body. I help people explore what a wonderful resource our bodies can be. With a client-centered approach, I also utilize things like EMDR, Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and other experiential techniques depending on your goals. We might also end up incorporating art, music, or writing at times, depending on your level of comfort with doing so. Everything I offer is always invitational.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe we ALL possess an innate ability to change, grow, and heal. I believe therapy should be a safe space without judgment, and I strive to offer my clients just that. I think a lot of present-day suffering has roots in the past, whether we're talking about anxiety, depression, perfectionism, or even relationship difficulties. Understanding your own story, how you learned to survive to the world, what was modeled to you, and what was maybe lacking, is a crucial part of the healing process. These experiences all contribute to the formation of limiting beliefs and that inner critic we all wish would go away. When I was younger I struggled with depression and anxiety. I had difficulty handling these "messy" feelings because they were incongruent withe the 'perfect' exterior I projected. That is what initially lead me to this work. It's possible to come out on the other side with self-compassion, tools to navigate the stressors of life, &the ability to have fulfilling relationships.
