About My Clients

There is a lot of mental illness in my family and friends, and I've seen how the presence or absence of engagement in therapy has affected their mental well-being. I've worked with clients experiencing active trauma (intimate partner violence and trafficking) as well as patients in inpatient psychiatry. I’m accustomed to working with clients diagnosed with PTSD, bipolar disorders, depressive disorders, anxiety disorders, psychosis, and borderline personality disorder.

My Background and Approach

If you decide to work with me, you can expect unconditional positive regard, warmth, and a safe space in which we work together toward your goals. I think humor and laughter can be powerful tools for coping and healing and I love to co-create a space where that is welcome. On the other hand, I will also point out when defense mechanisms show up that serve to distract you from what is important. I will always be kind, and I will always be honest. I will respect your autonomy and never tell you what to do or feel. By simply holding space and listening, strangers at bus stops and bars have felt comfortable enough to tearfully share their stories with me. That strange talent serves me well as a therapist!

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Put simply, I believe in social justice for all. I believe in equity, I believe in reparations. I believe every person deserves to have their basic needs met. I believe there is no way to achieve social justice in a capitalist system in which profit is valued above people and exploitation is a given. I believe damaging social systems which we are unable to avoid weigh heavily on our mental health. I think it’s a tragedy that the extreme individualism that our society has come to encourage and even necessitate has injured our ability to collectively care for one another’s needs to the extent we are able. There is no replacement for therapy, but I think that there is massive value and power in connectedness within and across communities.
