About My Clients

It can be hard to ask for help, even when we feel overwhelmed by depression and anxiety. You may feel isolated, even among family and others in your life. If you haven't see a therapist before you may wonder what it is like and whether or not it will help. Talking with a therapist can be an opportunity to look at thoughts and feelings with curiosity and without judgment. Together we can explore the ways past hurt can be locked away, causing current problems.

My Background and Approach

I spend the first several sessions listening to you and catching up on what you already understand about yourself. At some point, I may offer ideas about themes that might lead us to a deeper understanding what may be leading to low self-esteem and difficulty connecting with others. I don't have off-the-shelf techniques I use for everyone, but sometimes tools such as mindfulness exercises can help manage symptoms of anxiety and depression. I have a masters in counseling psychology from Bastyr University, including an internship at Seattle Counseling Service. Before becoming a counselor, I practiced law, worked as a teacher, and travelled and lived abroad. My varied background helps me connect with a wide range of people, and makes me curious about what I may not understand. I look forward to getting to know you and working with you to understand what may be causing feelings of depression, anxiety, and difficulty in relationships.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that we become our whole selves in relationships with others. This means that psychological pain from earlier relationships can hide from us our ability to feel good about ourselves and feel optimistic about our lives. Often, a compassionate examination of how we feel in current and past relationships, can help heal past wounds and can offer lasting, meaningful change.
