About My Clients

I love working with people who are ready to examine who they are and how they came to be. I focus on folks wanting to explore their sexuality, its presence in relationships and how better to express their needs and desires. I am well versed in working with polyamorous, non monogamous, kink and bdsm aligned folks. I enjoy complex family systems, helping people to make meaning of attachments and enact more loving boundaries with people in their lives.

My Background and Approach

I've been in social work since 2009, firmly rooted in community based mental health work in NYC. I moved into private practice in 2016 and wanted to work with other radical, queer folks. I want to collaborate with my client, process together and have an authentic conversation. I am not a blank slate, nor do I assign homework. Humor has a place in therapy. Life is tragically sad and funny! I want my clients to tolerate discomfort while understanding it's inherent impermanence. I'm a psychodynamic practitioner who believes in how the past influences our current life. I seek to move unconscious influence into our consciousness so we can understand its presence and purpose. I think that softness and resiliency are not in opposition and I hope that our therapy together will uncover our capacity for both. Although not a requirement, I believe long term work allows for all of you to unfold in the therapy space and I encourage you to be here as long as you want. There is no rush.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I deeply believe in the complexities of everyone's human experience. Social location is one aspect of how we know each other and how the world knows us/treats us. I also think we come from family systems that have certain beliefs, preferences and guidelines and I love unpacking those and figuring out which ones you want to keep and which ones you want to build anew. I have a wide range of experience working with suicidality or chronic feelings of not wanting to be alive. Making meaning of desperation, building hope and more accurately describing what is happening internally that may lead to feelings of hopelessness.I also believe that gender and sexuality are spaces of exploration and self discovery. A large portion of my work has been with queer and trans folks coming into their own voice. I work closely with substance use and care way more about the *why* around use then figuring out how to obtain abstinence. While I have been sober for 14+ years, that doesn't need to be for everyone
