About My Clients
Have you been feeling exhausted, let down, or anxious? Do you feel like people don't *get* you? Are you unsure if therapy could even help? Maybe you're exhausted by the never-ending thoughts in your head and conflict with others. I get it. This is my jam. I specialize in supporting people to understand why things are happening as they are and figuring out what to do differently so that they can feel better - and I know you can feel better too.
My Background and Approach
My training as a marriage and family therapist means that with each person I work with, I am holding awareness of how folks are impacted by their relationships, the people in their lives, the places they spend time, the society they're growing up in, and the impact of culture around them. When we understand the context of our lives, we can better understand ourselves and each other, thus improving relationships with ourselves AND each other. My goal as your therapist is to challenge and collaborate with you to deepen understanding, manage stress, and try new skills so that you can generally feel better individually and in your relationships. In session, I use talk, art, play, games, books, and movement to support our work together. You can expect me to be structured, direct, warm, and compassionate, working together with you - and your people as is relevant - to move toward your goals to feel better.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that all people should have access to supports that are affirming of who they are. It is important to me that I hold a safe space for my clients no matter their racial, cultural, religious, sexual, or gender identities; I strive to do this professionally and personally. I aim to show up with humility and awareness about my privilege as a cisgendered, heterosexual, white woman in this world and to use my privilege to lift others up. It is important to me that I provide high quality therapy to all of my clients; I attend weekly supervision and consultation groups, seek out formal training in areas relevant to my clients, and am perpetually reading (or listening!) to books that support my work. Working within the healthcare system presents unique complexities and so I am out of network with insurance, but my commitment to affordability is reflected in a "pay what you can" rate model available to any client who requests it. I believe everyone deserves care, kindness, and support.
