In trauma therapy, we will work on building coping skills first to manage intensive emotions. Then, we will use trauma focused CBT to work on irrational thoughts.
In therapy, we will practice mindfulness to keep our mind at the current moment instead of being in the past to reduce self blaming/self judgment. We will also practice CBT to identify and restructure irrational thoughts related to depression.
In therapy, we will be able to differentiate the differences between fear and anxiety. We will understand why we would have physicals symptoms when feeling anxious. We will understand the biological function of anxiety and understand why mindfulness and CBT would help us to overcome anxiety.
CBT is a powerful tool that can be used to treat many mental health issues. We will also teach you coping skills that are CBT based and you can practice yourself.
Mindfulness is the ability to live in the present moment, not in the past, or in the future. Mental health issues such as trauma is a good example of living in the past. Anxiety is usually caused by living in the future.
