About My Clients

Aly's current private psychotherapy practice is available online for California residents. She primarily works with individual adults in their 20’s - 40’s struggling with painful relationship patterns, anxiety/depression, addictive behaviors, negative self-concepts, and other impacts of childhood abuse or victimization. She specifically enjoys working with females struggling with sex and love addiction and codependency patterns stemming from early attachment injury.

My Background and Approach

My therapy practice is deeply grounded in my own psychological growth and development work, with over 25 years of personal therapy and professional/clinical experience studying and practicing a wide variety of somatic-based psychotherapies, creative expressive arts, yoga/mindfulness meditation, and feminine spirituality. My practice is guided by the polyvagal theory of the autonomic nervous system, feminist theory, systems theory, attachment theory, somatic psychotherapy, and trauma studies.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

The “self as instrument” perspective is at the crux of my work. This places responsibility on the therapist to do their own therapy and suggests that a therapist can only take their clients as far as they have personally gone in their own healing process. As a survivor and person in recovery myself, I have come to fully trust in the innate capacity of the human being to heal following painful life experiences. I believe in the power of trauma-informed education as a way forward for our world. I have a special interest in racial justice, LGBTQ equality, anti-pornography/human trafficking work, and animal rescue/adoption efforts. I support the sexual & gender-based violence prevention work of Dr. Jessica Taylor of Victim Focus in the UK (https://www.victimfocus.org.uk/), 2) Dr. Gail Dine's Culture Reframed (https://www.culturereframed.org/) and 3) Futures Without Violence (https://www.futureswithoutviolence.org/).
