About My Clients
I primarily work with individual adults in their 20’s - 40’s struggling with painful relationship patterns, chronic anxiety/depression, addictive behaviors, negative self-concepts, and other impacts of childhood abuse and neglect. I have a particular interest in supporting women who have been “afraid to be alone” in developing a deep and fulfilling relationship with their innate inner wisdom, functional adult Self, and their precious inner child.
My Background and Approach
My therapy practice is deeply grounded in my own psychological growth and development work, with over 25 years of personal therapy and professional/clinical experience studying and practicing a variety of psychotherapies for trauma healing. My practice is guided by the polyvagal theory of the autonomic nervous system, Pia Mellody's post-induction model, interpersonal neurobiology, feminist theory, family systems, attachment theory, depth psychology, somatic-based psychotherapies, and trauma & addiction studies.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
The “self as instrument” perspective is at the crux of my work. This places responsibility on the therapist to do their own therapy and suggests that a therapist can only take their clients as far as they have personally gone in their own healing process. As a survivor and person in recovery myself, I have come to fully trust in the innate capacity of the human being to heal following painful life experiences. I believe in the power of trauma-informed education as a way forward for our world.
