About My Clients
Are you LGBTQIA+ and seeking support? Maybe you're tired of therapy that is just "LGBTQIA+ friendly" and not whole-heartedly LGBTQIA+ and trans-affirming. Or maybe this is your first time looking for a therapist who understands and validates your unique experiences. Regardless of where you are in your journey, I welcome you here. My practice is dedicated to providing affirming and celebratory therapy for individuals facing challenges related to anxiety, depression, relationships, and more.
My Background and Approach
Before opening my practice I spent a number of years working in community mental health at a local nonprofit dedicated to serving LGBTQIA+ and HIV+ communities. I received specialized training, support, and supervision in evidence-based LGBTQIA+ affirming therapeutic techniques and I learned how to center advocacy, rather than gatekeeping, in my work with transgender & gender diverse individuals. I have experience supporting individuals with presenting concerns related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem, gender identity, life transitions, grief, complex trauma, boundaries, attachment, communication, and relationships. Using a strengths-based approach, together we'll uncover the roots of your thoughts and emotions, explore their impact on your behaviors and relationships, and cultivate a compassionate relationship with yourself. We'll work together to embrace your inner strength and resilience, and develop practical skills for navigating life's challenges with confidence.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
This work challenges me to think critically about the tradition and nature of psychotherapy and learn what healing modalities are most supportive for LGBTQIA+ individuals and families. In my practice I steer away from pathologizing LGBTQIA+ individuals and gatekeeping transgender healthcare. Instead, my practice is queer & trans-affirming, relational, collaborative, and celebratory of our collective resilience. While the journey of growth and healing can be beautifully messy, complex, and nonlinear, I make room for balance, joy and authentic connection in our work together. While I love my work and identity as a therapist, I also appreciate other parts of my identity: I am a queer & Latina woman, a wife, and a parent to two cats. I am a teaching assistant for graduate school students training to be therapists. Outside of my beloved work as a therapist, I find balance and inspiration in the natural beauty of the Bay Area, playing soccer and volleyball, and cooking for my loved ones.
