"There is no ordinary life that is free of pain. It is the very fighting with our problems that propels our growth."

It is not easy to acclimate to this country as a family of immigrants. You may experience extra stress, pain, and feel disconnected. It may be because “America” doesn’t always welcome or see you. Or perhaps you come from a family that holds values different from your own. This means that you may have to mask, fit inside the box, or always “follow the rules.” Let's talk about who you are aside from your culture and background.
My counseling approach is person centered and trauma informed. This means that I assist people in recognizing just how much their experiences and perspectives have effected their life - and what messages we can unlearn to make life more meaningful.
When individuals become overwhelmed to the point of thinking of harming themselves, then it is time to stop everything and re-examine our lifestyle. I have worked to become proficient at making clients realize that problems - and thoughts of harm - are transient and that there are many other solutions and practices that can make life more meaningful.
Our teenagers are dealing with a lot in these odd times we live in. On top of getting to know themselves, others, and tackling their own academic/career development, adolescents are also expected to manage their own stressors and emotions at times. It is important to help adolescents nurture healthy relationships and habits by approaching them with empathy and a strong knowledge of where they are at developmentally.
