About My Clients

Imagine a version of yourself that bravely confronts the things that currently terrify you. How would it feel if the daunting monsters that creep into your thoughts at bedtime started to lose their size and power? I know what it is like to want to run from feelings that threaten to overwhelm us. Feelings like shame, sadness, anger, and fear that are often linked to traumatic memories of when we were overwhelmed and overpowered.

My Background and Approach

When you come to me for therapy, my first task is getting to know and understand you. I want you to leave our first session together with the feeling that you are a unique, complex individual worthy of knowing. I am committed to doing everything in my power to understand you, so that you can feel confident in the work we do together. I have been a family and individual therapist working in settings ranging from an average living room in Pueblo, CO to a harm reduction agency in the Bronx. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional who specializes in trauma and attachment issues. I use brain and body-based techniques such as Brain Synchronization Therapy (like EMDR) and inner child healing modalities.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Before I became a therapist, I was a social worker and community organizer. I took part in actions that fought back against immoral immigration policies, police brutality, violence against people who identify as women (both systemic and intimate), and class injustice. But within these groups, oppressive tendencies and systems still abounded; both within others and within myself. I decided then that I wanted to go to graduate school to learn how systemic and interpersonal trauma affects my fellow community members and how I can help heal it. It took me a couple of years to realize my motives weren't selfless; that I was also trying to heal and create a safer world for myself. Now, I work from the framework of Lila Watson, Aboriginal activist, “If you have come here to help me you are wasting your time, but if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.”
