About My Clients

Helping professionals, educators, creative types, parents, therapists, students, and sensitive souls often choose to work with me. My clients tend to have a queer/trans/nonbinary identity and are reassured to be in the presence of a therapist who is also part of the community. My clients also often have symptoms that haven't been easily resolved in the past by traditional talk therapy. I enjoy working with people who are able to, or want to learn how to, tune in and attend to their reactions.

My Background and Approach

I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, which means I help people work with how the body and nervous system have coped with stress and trauma. I'm capable of working with single incident shock traumas, developmental trauma from childhood, or ongoing effects of chronic stress. I can help you integrate your past experiences with your current life. I take a holistic approach to all things and hold the complexity of the human experience while also working toward feeling better and functioning well in life. It should be noted that I am not a traditional talk therapist and do not rely heavily on meaning-making or interpretation. I am also a board-approved social work supervisor and currently provide supervision to several pre-licensed clinicians. In my previous work, I supported people with an immigration journey and in refugee resettlement, I have worked with families and children, I was once a sexual health educator, and also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in my early 20s.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that anyone can improve their resiliency and self regulation capacity with some support and skilled guidance. There are always legitimate reasons for our behaviors, even if we don't have understand them yet. Working as a therapist is incredibly meaningful and I feel grateful that my clients are willing to let me share in their journey. I grew up at a time and in a place when LGBTQIA+ folks were not celebrated or even tolerated. I've worked hard as an adult to recover from the often invalidating, sometimes traumatic, experiences of my upbringing. Working with queer/trans folks in my practice has become a healing and wonderful extension of my life and gives me so much cause for joy. It's been healing to provide the kind of support to others that I've benefitted from myself.
