About My Clients
I truly enjoy working with children, teens and families, specifically kids who tend to worry a lot, have difficulty managing their emotions, struggle with low self worth and or have a history of trauma. I also enjoy working with parents to help them deepen their understanding of their child so they can coach and guide them. In addition, I specialize in therapy with women and girls of Latin heritage who seek support navigating multiple social and cultural challenges.
My Background and Approach
I have experience in working with youth and families in multiple settings including schools, health clinics and community agencies. I have acquired specialized training in using approaches that help children and individuals learn how to identify feelings and use skills to manage stress and painful emotions. I have expertise in childhood trauma, anxiety and multicultural identify development. I use practical, well- researched and effective approaches in therapy, (CBT, Trauma Focused CBT, Mindfulness Based CBT). When I work with children, I use play and art to encourage communication and understanding. My approach is genuine, direct, compassionate, collaborative and playful. I hold my clients in the highest respect and honor their ability to seek support in therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a Latina, native of San Francisco and very familiar with the challenges and joys of life in the Bay Area. I have been married for over 25 years and have three children who are my greatest teachers and have helped me develop an understanding of the challenges of parenting! I love being a therapist and find tremendous joy and purpose in my work as an advocate for both my young clients and their parents. In my spare time, I enjoy collecting play lists of Afro-Cuban music, (dancing to it as well), reading and watching documentaries. I look forward to meeting you and welcome the opportunity to provide therapy in a safe and supportive environment.
