About My Clients
I work well with couples or individuals struggling in their family unit or people going through a transitional time in their life, such as grieving a loss or divorce, etc. I enjoy the diversity in humans, and the variety of nontraditional families and relationships that are possible. I have worked with the local Diversity Center, and am an alley to the LGBTQ+ community. I am additionally certified in Marriage and Couples Counseling.
My Background and Approach
As a previous educator and school counselor I began with children and worked through the family unit as a professional counselor, only to gravitate towards the systemic work of couples and relationships. I hold special interest in couples counseling and adults moving through various stages of their life. I currently counsel college students, individuals, and couples. I no longer see children under 15, as only online is available. I have a systemic approach to most cases and a way of seeing each situation as unique to the circumstance of the person coming for help. I believe in treatment being person-centered, client-paced and individualized to meet needs. Helping people find their way in this world is the most rewarding career, and I am frequently complemented on my genuineness and non-judgemental comfortable sessions.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
We are a working progress. Life is about the dance, not the last note and last step. I can empathize and find strength in everyone I meet. My personal life has taught me our time is precious and influence great, so every session is treated as if it may be the last interaction, as I truly want my clients to have something to take away from therapy. Even though I utilize our time, I also believe in the therapeutic relationship, and know that often it takes time to get deep. Therapy can go as far as the client wants to take it. As a person who has had a variety of struggles, I believe counseling can be beneficial for everyone at particular times of their life and as needs change. I also believe in convenient counseling: the ability to see someone within a few days at a feasible time and reasonable price that does not have to interfere with work or life obligations.
