Personal growth work can entail 1. Exploring in depth your personal story. Central to this is your family of origin experience, but also includes other formative experiences. 2. Gaining a clearer sense of who you are and what you bring to the world, e.g. personality, strengths, personal values, drives, motivations, needs, and vulnerabilities. 3. Exploring desires, goals, choices or decisions you may face.

I practice psychoanalytically-informed psychotherapy, primarily in the traditions of British Object Relations and relational psychoanalysis. Psychoanalytic means my attention leans towards the world of inner emotional experience; the nature of one's pain and one's relationship to it; patterns of relating to self/other; early formative experience and impact; and a respect for the unconscious as a creative canvas of emotional expression (e.g. dreams).

Psychodynamic therapy and psychoanalyic therapy are the same, except psychodynamic treatment may be more brief in length and less in-depth. While I enjoy longer therapy relationships of 2+ years, I have seen many individuals for 6 - 12 months.

My primary practice orientation is psychoanalytic/psychodynamic. This means my thinking and attention lean toward the world of inner experience; the complex ways we relate to ourselves/our pain/and others; the formative influence of early relational environments; and the unconscious as an alive and un-tamable canvas of expression and communication.

As humans we live storied lives. Processing our formative stories and understanding the stories we tell ourselves can bring a sense of liberation and integration within the self.

Attending to humanistic, phenomenological, and existential angles of your experience including issues of meaning, identity, being, personal goodness, creativity, freedom, choice, responsibility, possibility and future, and death.

This angle is about your experience of finding meaning as a human among humans in this world.

Attachment theory is about the flavor and drama of the bond between you and your earliest primary caregivers, usually mom and dad. This bond develops in the first year(s) of life and carries through to adulthood. If you find a drama playing out within you (and outwardly) around your longing for closeness but difficulty managing that closeness without too much distress, you may be coming up against attachment-related issues that your body and emotions remember but your cognitive memory cannot.
