I believe that we have the ability to relate to our thoughts & emotions in different ways than we are usually used to and taught. Therapy is a space to practice being uncomfortable, in a safe & secure setting, to experience relating to our minds, feelings, and selves in a different way. Emotional and mental health is central to personal growth, and personal growth is essential for general well-being. Therapy is where we can address any concerns that may be blocking your personal potential.
I have significant experience working with body image, eating concerns, & eating disorders. Maybe you’ve struggled with body image your whole life, or maybe you’re adapting to a more recent life change. Maybe your physical body is not even a concern & you struggle more with internal self-esteem/confidence. We can discover what is at the root of your difficulties and identify ways to change unhealthy patterns. I strive to provide you a safe space to address these sensitive & personal concerns.
Constantly worrying, overthinking, feeling overwhelmed? Find yourself procrastinating, striving for perfection, or feeling paralyzed? “Anxiety” is frequently used to describe a number of stressful experiences & can show up in infinite ways. Whether you’ve experienced a full-on panic attack, or just have difficulty keeping up with your to-do list, it is possible that anxiety may be playing a role. There are numerous ways to better manage your anxiety & stress in order to take charge of your life.
My primary framework is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (known as ACT), which is an evidence-based approach. ACT emphasizes mindfulness and the present moment, identifying personal values, increasing flexibility in the way we relate to our thoughts and emotions, and becoming unstuck from unhealthy patterns. I very much value my clients and I prioritize tailoring the therapy approach to what they want, need, and hope for. I take client's multicultural and systemic factors into account as well.
My generalist training included Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. CBT helps you manage your problems by changing the way you feel, think and act. The therapy aims to find practical ways to help you deal with problems in a more positive way by breaking them down into smaller parts. ACT is from the same behavioral family as CBT; however, CBT focuses more on changing people's patterns of thinking in order to better navigate the difficulties of life, focusing on symptom reduction.
Solution Focused Brief Therapy is a 2-6 session approach using techniques from evidence based interventions to offer a brief & targeted plan for therapy. We will define your problem & identify desirable solutions, explore previous attempts to resolve the problem, identify challenging behaviors & obstacles, set specific goals for solving the problem, identify realistic changes, & put your plan into action. Therapy is not a one size fits all service & I tailor treatment to what will best suit you!
