About My Clients

Isn’t opening up to a new therapist one of the worst things? Especially when you’re worried if they’ll “get” the experiences you’ve had exploring or developing new identities. Whether this is the first or 50th time searching for a therapist, it’s scary. I work hard to minimize those fears by providing a safe and affirming space to open up and embrace your own truth. What would it be like to work with a therapist who accepts you exactly as you are, while supporting you to be better? Come find out

My Background and Approach

I started in the mental health field in 2003, working at an alternative school and residential center for kids with pretty severe mental and behavioral disorders. While there, I decided to pursue a career in social work, going on to earn my Bachelor of Social Work from Cleveland State University (2007), and Master of Social Work from the University of Illinois at Chicago (2010). I have worked with youth in a wide range of settings; in addition to those mentioned, I’ve worked in respite programs, public schools, and outpatient therapy. I’ve lived in Maryland since 2015, and now work in private practice where I can bring my whole self to my work. This means that I identify with many of the populations that I serve, and blend my lived experience with practice knowledge. My approach to our therapeutic relationship is collaborative, helping you to develop the tools you need to resolve issues on your own. Or, in the words of a college professor, “It’s my job to help you not need me anymore.”

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe in working to “set up a life you don’t need to escape from.” For me, this means spending time with magical people around sacred fires. It means that if something makes you happy and doesn’t hurt anyone else, let yourself enjoy it. I am sex positive, kink knowledgeable, and support consensual non-monogamy; I welcome clients of appropriate age who want to explore these parts of themselves. I’m an activist at heart, but honoring my own limitations keeps me in more of a support role. I extend that activism and support by reserving about a quarter of my caseload for folks who need financial assistance. I adore cats for their independence. While I don’t plan to have either dogs or kids of my own, I hope to someday live in a community where I can help care for other people’s. I don’t understand sportsball, and am often not up to date on pop culture. I’m an introverted geek who doesn’t understand how they thrive in a career centered around talking to people.
