Hi, I'm Cheryl Carr. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist. I provide counseling to NY residents.
Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Hamburg, NY
Therapist & providers for others experience burnout from providing care to their clients, patients & to their own family members. Also, the expectations put on them or they put on themselves. You often wonder where do I fit in & who takes care of me? How do I continue to keep giving, when my reserves are being depleted or empty? I assist therapist/providers with finding the balance amongst their family, career, relationships & most importantly for themselves. Are you ready for selfcare?
My training, experience and overall belief is that our mind, body and spirit are all connected. When any of those are out of alignment, we feel out of balance, stressed, anxious, or depressed. Also, our beliefs shape our thoughts and can trigger our responses. We're not made of separate components. We are all one and connected. I assist you with restoring, regaining or being that person you truly are.
Most common health issue & complaint is feeling stressed or anxious. We have all felt that experience. We know there is healthy stress or anxious feelings. However, when there are too many stressors or events that occur, our mind, body & spirit feel disconnected. When that occurs, we need strategies to feel connected or aligned again. I have experience assisting you with learning and employing strategies to have a calmer and balanced life so you can enjoy doing the things you want to.
As humans, we store memories, experience and emotions on a cellular level. Which means, it’s not “all in your head”; rather, our bodies hold information as well. Somatic approaches are used to engage the relationship between mind, body, brain, and behaviors. I'll use strategies and techniques to help calm your nervous system, and create more ease in your healing process. The mind-body techniques aid in the release of pent-up tension that’s weighing on your emotional and physical well-being.
Cognitive behavioral therapy is one of the most common treatment methods used by many. CBT focuses on changing the automatic negative thoughts that can contribute to and worsen emotional difficulties, depression, and anxiety. Our thoughts triggers responses and behaviors. You'll learn how to change negative patterns with skills to reduce anxiety, stress or other distressing emotions. This leads to a calmer, balanced and peaceful sense of self and well being.
The goal of holistic therapy is to balance all the different aspects of the person, so the entire person is addressed during therapy and not just one aspect of ourselves. It is the integration of the mind, body and spirit. You'll gain understanding and knowledge of how our mental health can affect our physical health and overall sense of well being. You'll learn techniques to decrease the tension, anxiety, and stress and aid you in creating a more balanced state of mind, body and spirit.
Trauma experiences are more common than people think. Trauma is an emotional response to a disturbing and distressing event. The person may have experienced or witnessed the trauma. The traumatic event or experience is individualized for each person, it effects the person uniquely. Our body holds on to that experience even when our memory tries to forget it. The body stores the memory. You'll learn how to calm and regulate your nervous system. Most importantly, reclaim your life.
I provide counseling services to those experiencing compassion fatigue or burn out. You're the one who keeps on giving, or experiences vicarious trauma on a frequent basis and unable to refill your tank due to many responsibilities and expectations. We need care also. Taking time for yourself and self care. This allows you to feel whole again, more energy for yourself, your priorities, and balance. Self-care equals more there!!
