Becoming a parent is hard enough. Adding a mood disorder to the mix can make things feel insurmountable. Did you know that 1 in 5 moms and 1 in 10 dads suffer from postpartum depression? Help is available, and with help, you will be well. I am a member of Postpartum Support International and am currently receiving my certification in Perinatal Mental Health.

Throughout my work in outpatient clinics, hospitals, and the juvenile justice system, I've worked with adults and teens who have experienced tremendous trauma. When symptoms begin to get in the way of living life, therapy can help. I'm trained in Trauma Focused CBT which helps people process what happened to them in a safe environment while learning skills to help manage painful emotions.

Over the years I've worked with adults and adolescents from all walks of life who use self-harm as a way to cope with overwhelming emotions. I am trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy which can help people find other ways to manage painful emotions.

Sometimes emotions can feel so big and overwhelming that people turn to things like self-harm or substances to cope. People may say "it's like my emotions are controlling me." This can create problems in work, relationships with others, and our relationship with ourself. DBT can help. I received intensive DBT training from the Behavioral Tech Institute and helped to create two comprehensive DBT programs working with young adults. I currently offer individual DBT therapy.

Where we came from and how we grew up can be a "blueprint" for how we understand the world today. Sometimes, especially when we grew up in traumatic or abusive environments, these blueprints need to be looked at and changed. Psychodynamic therapy is a way to uncover and change unhealthy/unhelpful patterns that are impacted by these past experiences.

I believe that healing happens in relationships, and person-centered therapy is all about working to provide the pieces of a healing therapy relationship. When people feel that they are seen, heard, and understood, they begin to move towards accepting themselves as they are. What I really love about person-centered therapy is the belief that we each have within us the capacity to grow. My job is to help get the roadblocks out of the way.
