About My Clients
Rather than viewing people as inherently flawed with problematic behaviors and thoughts that require treatment, person-centered therapy identifies that each person has the capacity for personal growth and change. With a person-centered approach there is recognition with the ability to trust the human potential and doing this with empathy and unconditional positive regard will foster change.
My Background and Approach
The use of expressive arts includes a multi-modal approach. These modalities include music, poetry, writing, literature, drama, movement, yoga, astrology, tarot, and visual art. Expressive art therapy provides forms of creative expression which can help individuals explore and transform difficult emotions. There is an increasing amount of scientific evidence that connects expressive arts with the ability for the brain to become enhanced. It has also been identified that expressive arts may have an impact on brain wave patterns and emotions, the nervous system, and can raise serotonin levels. Expressive arts can change a person’s outlook and the way they experience the world.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
The world continues to evolve and change. As humans we must learn to adapt to the these constant variables. My personal beliefs are that no two people are the same. Because of this, treatment is not so simple to generalize or explain, and it can only be experienced. There is no set way to do one thing, since each person has had their own individual life and lived experiences. I acknowledge that I am a white cis privileged female that works in a rural community which systemically has oppression. There are many struggles that are implicitly imbedded in our society that cause oppression and harm. Humanistic therapist believe that all humans have the potential for good, however, that accountability is up to them to recognize the need for change.
