About My Clients

Do you work really hard to pretend you're okay? Are you scared to admit how lonely you feel, even to those closest to you? What if everyone knew how sad, unhappy and worried you feel? Are you flooded by thoughts of what could go wrong, even during "good" times? No matter how hard you try to distract yourself with social media, shopping or TV, anxious thoughts and dread for the day to come bombard you when you try to sleep. These issues impact our relationships with others and especially ourselves.

My Background and Approach

It’s never easy to find a therapist..and if you were like me and grew up in a family that discouraged therapy and even talking about mental health in general, it can be especially intimidating and downright scary to even look for a therapist. This is one of the reasons why I try to make therapy as comfortable and relaxed as possible. Of course it can be hard to talk about your problems and emotions with a stranger. That being said, I’m very laid back, chill by nature, and love to laugh and joke around. So, I certainly welcome humor in sessions. I try to show up as my authentic self and personality and certainly welcome you to do the same. I have a background in narrative, family systems, and relational therapy. Meaning let’s talk about the stories you are telling yourself (and if maybe they are no longer serving you), where you came from, what you did to survive, and how to transform all that so you can finally thrive.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I enjoy working with a wide variety of folks from all types of cultural background, sexual orientations, races, ethnicities and religions (including the wide array of Christian denominations). I also have experience with people with ADHD, and those dealing with chronic pain. I know it can be difficult for a person of color to see a white, male therapist. I don’t pretend to be colorblind or ignorant of my privilege, and I welcome discussions about differences, privilege and identity. I want to understand (as best I can) what your experience is like living in your body. Therefore I will always continue to learn and grow, especially where it concerns gender, race, ethnicity, and sexual identity. The dynamic process of creating and maintaining a safe space is very important to me.
