About My Clients
Most of my clients are trans/nonbinary, queer, and/or Black, biracial, or POC. My passions are trauma healing & integrating social justice into the space of therapy. What that means is I view oppression as a source of trauma, & whether it's your race, gender, class, disability status, or any other part of who you are, I see your identity as super relevant to what will make you feel safe and supported in therapy, and work hard to honor it. My Background and Approach
I'm a fully-licensed clinical social worker in Michigan trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) through level two (current concentrations: Trauma and Neuroscience & Addictions and Eating Disorders). I've also go entry-level Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (somatic psychotherapy for trauma) training and supervision. I practice from a harm reduction perspective, and see you as the expert on your mental health. I love supporting clients who may be chronically suicidal, engaging in self-harm, experiencing psychosis, navigating dissociation, or labeled with "personality disorders." I've also been offering successful assessments for gender-affirming healthcare for trans/nonbinary folks since January, 2017. I am a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), and the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISST-D). I have trained providers at universities across the US and Canada, including the University of Michigan, Cornell, and Harvard University.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I've been a community organizer since 2005, and am totally in love with QTPOC Detroit. In 2011, I co-founded an organization of QTPOC youth media organizers, and offered mentorship and support to young people across Detroit using podcasts, videos, fliers, and banners to address topics ranging from street harassment to intimate partner violence. I support #BLM, and believe #NoHumanIsIllegal. I believe trans liberation and racial justice cannot be separated from disability justice or the Mad Pride movement. I'm also a psych survivor, and my personal experiences within the mental health system guide my practice on a daily basis.
