About My Clients
I invite individual adults and couples to explore your struggles and the unhealthy patterns that keep you mired in feelings of sadness, anxiety, or simply with a sense that your life is not quite how you wish it to be. Maybe you've tried to work out the problems yourself and keep circling back to square one. Maybe you've hit a brick wall. Maybe you don't even know where to begin. Together, we'll uncover the power of change that lives inside you.
My Approach to Helping
My varied background in this field has led me to believe that our experiences shape who we are, how we think, and what we feel. Our work together starts with an exploration into how your unique experiences have impacted your current struggles. I help you develop self-understanding and self-compassion, and perhaps help you shift assumptions and beliefs that keep you stuck. We'll assess whether the ways you've learned to cope and ways you've learned to protect yourself are still relevant or if they're holding you back. We'll develop new, healthier ways for you to be with yourself and within relationships. Change is hard, and it can be scary--even if it's change for the better. The power of therapy is that you aren't alone. I'll be right there beside you as we probe the dark places, and there still as we emerge into a lighter space where you can more easily manage your emotions and actions, and start to feel so much better about yourself.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
We can all be put into groups--based on interests, on gender, gender identity, on sexuality, race, ethnicity, careers, politics, whether you come from a big family or small, whether you've chosen to be a parent or child-free, vegan or carnivore, morning person or night owl, dogs or cats, dine-in or take-out, ketchup or mustard.... But when you come into my office, I make no assumptions and no judgements. You are unique, and I want us both to understand what being YOU means to YOU. I am deeply interested in your story, and want you to know that your life, your struggles, your ups and your downs...they matter.
