My Background and Approach

Perhaps you recall this scene from a movie: imagine a tranquil airplane ride getting bumpy. The aircraft starts descending rapidly. The flight attendant urgently tells you to "put your oxygen mask on first" before assisting others. This simple yet crucial statement is equally important in our daily lives. Remembering to take time for yourself, without being selfish, can be challenging for those who often prioritize the needs of others. During our therapy sessions, we will explore your thoughts, feelings, decisions, choices, wants, and needs together. I will help you find your voice and prioritize taking care of yourself first, just like putting your own oxygen mask on before assisting others. My therapeutic approach is relational, supportive, empathetic, conversational, and collaborative. I will challenge you to be an active partner in therapy and work toward ongoing insight, growth, and positive change.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I work with teens, adults, couples, families, groups, communities of color, and the LGBT population. I have experience working with school stress, workplace stress, first-generation immigrants, the dynamics of aging, racism, homophobia, transphobia, conflict, and life transitions. I also recognize the role of race, culture, and identity in our lives and how oppression, prejudice, and racism (and other isms) can hinder our wellness. We may use various theoretical approaches such as Cognitive Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Trauma-Focused Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, LGBTQ Affirmative Therapy, and Attachment-based therapy. We can address issues important to you, such as anxiety, depression, cultural identities, and trauma.
