About My Clients
I have a considerable background working with the Black community and other communities of color, the LGBTQ and Non-Binary communities. I work with Adults, Teens, Individuals, and Couples from all cultural backgrounds. Everyone is welcome! My Background and Approach
Maybe you remember this scene from a movie; picture it: a peaceful airplane ride becomes turbulent. The plane begins losing altitude rapidly. The flight attendant urgently instructs you to "put your oxygen mask on first" before helping others. That simple but critical statement is just as important in our everyday lives. Remembering to take time for yourself non selfishly can be difficult for anyone who tends to place others' needs first. Together, we'll explore your thoughts, feelings, decisions, choices, wants, and needs in your therapy. I will assist you in" finding your voice" and help you to "put your oxygen mask on first." My therapeutic approach is Relational, Supportive, Empathetic, Conversational, and Collaborative. I will challenge you to be an active partner in therapy and work toward ongoing insight, growth, and positive change.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I work with teens, adults, couples, families, groups, communities of color, and the LGBT population. I have experience working with school stress, workplace stress, first-generation immigrants, the dynamics of aging, racism, homophobia, transphobia, conflict, and life transitions. I also recognize the role of race, culture, and identity in our lives and how oppression, prejudice, and racism (& other isms) can hinder our wellness. We may utilize multiple theoretical approaches such as Cognitive Therapy, Solution-Focused, Trauma-Focused, Psychodynamic, LGBTQ Affirmative, and Attachment-based therapy. We can address issues important to you, such as anxiety, depression, cultural identities, and trauma.
