About My Clients
You may feel overwhelmed, anxious, depressed, and alone in dealing with a life crisis or transition. Many of us struggle deeply around completing our families – finding the right partner, having children. You may have delayed having children for your career; you may have unexplained infertility. You & your partner may be dealing with these experiences differently. Maybe you have experienced pregnancy loss or other traumatic events. Maybe you are struggling with being a new parent.
My Background and Approach
For three decades, I have had the privilege of working with people of diverse backgrounds. After working in non-profit agencies with persons struggling with serious mental illness, I earned my doctoral degree in clinical psychology from Rutgers University. I employ a variety of techniques & approaches to help each person move towards a place of increased happiness and security within themselves. I believe that a genuine therapeutic relationship has the power to help people create the relationships they seek in their lives. Psychotherapy is a collaborative process involving exploration and trust. I can assist you in identifying and pursuing goals, developing better insight and learning new skills as you create the life you want to live. I specialize in assessments of prospective egg/sperm donors & surrogates/gestational carriers. I specialize in forensic assessments - including competency to stand trial, sanity, mitigation, guardianship & the evaluation of PTSD in civil matters.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe all people deserve to be treated with dignity and respect and that rights belong to all people or they belong to none. I seek to be humble in my approach and strive for cultural humility and am committed to being a life-long learner. I will be eternally grateful to the first responders on 9/11 who trusted me, awed me with their selflessness, inspired me with their post-traumatic growth, and were willing to share their stories with me for my doctoral dissertation. I have dedicated much of my career to working with the financially impoverished - through my work with persons dealing with serious mental illnesses and homelessness and my ongoing work with indigent persons who are justice-involved. I know it is hard - very hard - to reach out to talk with a mental health professional. On average in the US people wait a decade to get help. I am grateful to my teachers, mentors, and therapists. Therapy changed the course of my life. I know it can change yours too.
