About My Clients
Goofy goobers. People pleasers. Overthinkers. People with bad therapy experiences or narrow view of therapy. Anyone who has ever been told their emotions are "too big" or are "too much" for people. Intuitives. People who are interested in making friends with their pain rather than fighting. People who understand memes are a love language. The manifesters and meditators who's facial expressions get them in trouble. Big personalities stuck in capitalism. People too afraid to take up space.
My Background and Approach
I have been told by previous clients that I am an unconventional therapist; challenging the status quo of what therapy "is" or "isn't". What if there's nothing wrong with you? What if there's nothing to fix? To experience pain is to be human and we each must learn to been good stewards of our pain. Healing is about accepting the parts of ourselves that we have been told to hate. Together, we can shift the beliefs about yourself that have been imposed on you throughout your life. While I utilize many different modalities, Internal Family Systems (IFS) is the one I enjoy the most. Even though IFS is appropriate for most people, it is inherently destabilizing, so we will examine if you are at a spot in life where you can welcome instability or not. Regardless, I will meet your where you are at, and help you get to where you hope to be. If you are unsure where you are, what you need, or where you want to get to, I can provide support, guidance, and recommendations to collaborate with you.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that social work is political and that power, privilege, and oppression are key, intentional, parts to every system we encounter. After Mike Brown was murdered in my home town, I intentionally went to schools that taught from a social justice lens. I was able to learn how to use my degree and my privilege to change these systems to be more equitable, and continue to try to do so. I am intentional about who I choose to work for and the values they embrace. I understand that we need to participate in systems, and I choose to participate in ones that support equity and authenticity. I believe that knowledge is power, so I am a teacher as much as I am a clinician. Finally, I believe that connection is a fundamental human need and the key to healing. The most important relationship we can have is with ourselves. It is also the one that is targeted the most. I hope to help my clients remember how to trust their own innate wisdom as the greatest form of resistance to injustice.
