My Background and Approach
Short Answer: Emotion focused therapy, parts work primarily based in Internal Family Systems, mindfulness based, attachment theory, skills/interventions from other modalities such as DBT, CBT, ACT, and somatic approaches with psychoeducation interspersed. Long Answer: I truly enjoy supporting others in creating a new relationship with their emotions, body, and self. I look at the emotional experience and what information is often missed when emotions and the body is not given attention. Sometimes this emotion focused work looks like engaging in mindfulness with a compassionate and non-judgmental approach, even when you’re drowning in critical thoughts. Sometimes we engage in parts work (IFS) to understand more about where this feeling is coming from, what it’s trying to do for you, and how to work with it. I absolutely incorporate other approaches and modalities into my practice as needed. Outside of emotion focused, the backbone of my work is client centered and consent oriented.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Since our identities greatly inform our lives, it's important I share some of mine with you. I am a white, agender, queer, fat, mostly able bodied human. A combination of lived experience and my identities lead me to this field where I get the honor to hear people's stories and help them on their journeys. Because of this, I spend much of my time incorporating anti-racist and disability justice tenets into my life, both personally and professionally. Additionally, I am sex, kink, body, and fat positive, neurodivergent affirming, and supportive of polyamorous/non-monogamous relationships.
