Clinical Social Worker in Houston, TX
I worked for 3 years at MD Anderson Cancer Center as an inpatient social work counselor. As a social worker at MD Anderson, I specialized in providing supportive individual/group counseling to hematology patients. At MD Anderson I facilitated the Blood Cancer/Stem Cell Transplant Support Group, where I worked extensively with patients and caregivers whose lives were affected by cancer and treatment.
As a graduate student, I was a scholar of The Gerontology Resources and the Aging Community in Education (GRACE) Program. I am still in this GRACE Program network of professionals who specialize in treating older adults (65+). Additionally, I have worked extensively with individuals who are caregivers for older adults.
I hold a Military Social Work graduate certificate from UT - Austin and used to work for the VA of Central Texas. At the VA, I did social work case management and counseling with Veterans experiencing chronic homelessness. I have not personally served in the military, but am from a military family.

I incorporate elements of Humanistic Therapy into each session, notably Unconditional Positive Regard of my clients. It is important that I build a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship with my clients and show them acceptance.
I believe that each person deserves their own individualized treatment plan, and eclectic therapy is usually the most appropriate therapeutic modality. It is highly adaptable and allows me to incorporate the client's strengths when meeting their self-determined goals.
I have a graduate certificate in completion of a Motivational Interviewing course. This therapeutic orientation seeks to meet the client in their current state of change and use internal motivation to meet goals.
