About My Clients
I work with clients who may be struggling with big, difficult emotions due to issues such as a history of abuse, life transitions, and relationship challenges. The realization of how experiences affect us can lead to feelings of fear, shame, self-blame, anger, resentment, confusion, and powerlessness. I believe the solutions to resolving these feelings and creating change are within each of us but can feel out of our reach.
My Background and Approach
Depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, relationships, PTSD, interpersonal violence, childhood abuse, stress, and self-esteem are all issues I have helped clients address. I believe we are all teachers and learners, strong and vulnerable, hurt and whole. I encourage you to share your story, find meaning in your experiences, and heal the wounds that are keeping you stuck. Having completed a MSW at UT Austin in 2000, I am licensed as a Clinical Social Worker-Supervisor. I have completed over 800 hours of additional education, including EMDR. I enjoy helping others be the explorers of their own experiences and clients have said that I ask thought-provoking questions. I’ve been told that I am warm, supportive and nonjudgemental. I can be direct, use humor, and do not believe my job is to tell you what to do. It is your life, your choice, your power. My job is to help you uncover and overcome what is getting in the way of you using that power.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe the solutions to resolving big feelings and faulty beliefs, and creating change are within each of us but can feel out of our reach. With counseling, there is an opportunity to feel more present, authentic, and who you were meant to be. Counseling can help you, at your own pace, create the life you want and deserve. I believe that if you are ready for change and are willing to be an active participant in the counseling process, you can address issues and experiences that may even seem too big or too ugly to share. My belief is that these issues are external and not who you are. My primary approach is to explore the stories of your life, those you’ve lived and those you are telling yourself and others about who you are. I enjoy helping clients sort out what they want and reconcile that with what they believe they deserve and what they think is possible.
