About My Clients
I light up when I'm working with clients around dating and relationships, body image, sexuality, and racial ðnic identity wounds. If you're someone who perpetually worries about not being good enough and doesn't know why, I'm here to help you explore what parts of your personal and cultural history are showing up in the present.
My Background and Approach
I use a psychodynamic, relational approach. I believe in processing the deeper meaning behind your past experiences before moving into reframing your present day thoughts or planning your future. I take my time learning about your family of origin, past relationships, and relationship to the culture at large. I know intimately what it is like to live in the "in-between" space between cultures. I use this experience to check myself from making assumptions about how others experience their multiple identities, and I do my best to always listen for nuance.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in honoring all parts of who a client is and I help my clients internalize a greater sense of self-compassion through a patient, relationally oriented process. My subjectivity is greatly impacted by my experiences as a mixed race Mexican American woman. We look together at the ways that diet-culture, racism, sexism, and homophobia have impacted their lives in both concrete and existential ways. I help people move through and beyond the harmful stories these powerful parts of society may have taught them. I believe that we can all be loved without hiding who we really are and that relationships can be radically healing.
