About My Clients
I'm looking for clients who are ready to get to work on issues, big or small. If you need someone to laugh with you, that's me. I may not cry with you, but I'm going to make sure you have a safe place with me to do that if you need to. Don't deprive yourself from getting the help you need. I know finding a therapist can seem like such a monumental task, but choose to start somewhere. If I'm not the right fit, I'll try to help you so you can find that person you need.
My Background and Approach
This is my second career. My first was as a journalist and that plays an important part in my ability to treat a client and dig a bit deeper to find what's going on. I am interested in the truth. While YOUR truth is paramount, there are times when another perspective is beneficial. It was through my journalism career that I became sex-, kink-, and sex worker- positive. As a former sex columnist, I discovered there is a need in this community for competent therapists who do not judge or place their own biases on their clients' lives. I've worked with people of all ages and backgrounds. I worked in a psych hospital and in a men's correctional facility among other places where I've dealt first hand with violence and anger. I have also worked with male and female victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. I've been on the front lines for most of my career and I'm not going to flinch away from whatever you think is taboo or TMI. Stop hiding and get the help you deserve.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I enjoy being a therapist because I have good clients who talk and don't expect me to drag things out of them. I love being supportive and celebrating with clients who do the work to successfully reach their goals. It's not my work that's going to change things. It's yours. I love sports, have a bit of a mouth on me sometimes, strongly believe in the right to choose, in marrying if you want, in the right for families to look different from each other and still be healthy and amazing, in finding love with more than one person. I love to write and have a weakness for fanfic (No, you can't have my pen name). I have hopes and dreams, too, so please don't hesitate to share yours with me. I promise I won't shy away from the hard conversations. My experience is valuable and I'm offering it to you. What's the worst thing that could happen by you reaching out for the help you need? Currently, my evening appointments are few and far between. I have daytime appointments, though.
