About My Clients
I may be a good fit for you if you can relate to any of the following: -You feel powerless in your life and like it's simply happening to you -You feel overwhelmed by family or work challenges, & like you have no control over the direction of your life. -You keep finding yourself in the same type of relationships or life circumstances over & over again & aren’t sure how to put an end to these painful patterns. - You are struggling with symptoms of anxiety or depression
My Background and Approach
My clinical approach is informed by body-oriented or somatic psychotherapy. We are not just prefrontal cortexes that think. We have whole bodies that are experiencing this life with us. Our bodies experience trauma, grief, joy, & love. Our bodies are here to give us information & be a resource for us if we are open to sensing into its language. To engage the body in therapy, together we will explore sensation, affect, body movement, and gestures…along with what needs to be shared with words. Relational therapy also informs my work. I am particular effective at supporting people in improving their relationship to themselves. As, we are the person we're always with, our relationship with ourselves impacts every single aspect of our lives. In sessions with me, together we explore how you behave towards yourself, your internal narrative about yourself, and your feelings about yourself.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a Black woman who is a lesbian I have an embodied experience of sexism, racism, & homophobia. I know what it’s like to unveil unconsciously internalized beliefs of not being worthy or enough. I know personally what it’s like to release the internalized messages & to reaffirm new beliefs that are more aligned with my heart's desire. I believe that my own continual internal growth & healing is an asset to my clients. I can’t expect my clients to be with things I haven’t yet faced within myself. It is my full intention & passion to support people particularly those of marginalized identities with releasing messages of not enough-ness and creating new & accurate narratives of resilience, wisdom, & a right to be alive in our fullness. Furthermore, self compassion is a huge value of mine. When we understand that the ways we respond to life are part of what helped us survive hard things, self compassion becomes available to us, making positive change possible.
