About My Clients

I love the work I do, because of my clients. I am drawn to working with young adults and adults who experience a variety of mental health symptoms, though I have found my niche in those who struggle with depression, panic attacks, anxiety, existential concerns, and PTSD. At the end of the day, though, my focus is on your symptoms, not your diagnosis. My clients present to counseling with concerns about the impact of their mental health on their daily life, and that's where I come in!

My Background and Approach

I have my bachelor's in psychology from the University of Colorado Boulder, and my master's in counseling psychology from the University of Denver. I have worked in a variety of settings, including outpatient counseling, inpatient hospitals, group counseling, nonprofits, and research projects. My work with clients is based on what you want to accomplish in counseling - we are following your agenda, not mine. That said, I work from a place of collaboration while encouraging you to share and heal from your story. I utilize feminist and psychodynamic theories in my practice, which in short, focus on empowering you while understanding the root causes of your stressors, often from childhood events and primary caregivers. My role in the room is to follow you, while providing an outside perspective that is both truthful and gentle, with a bit of humor mixed in when appropriate. I work with clients on symptom management, harm reduction, and overall improvement in the quality of your life.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My practice is built on being inclusive, equitable, and honest during my work with you. I firmly stand with the Black Lives Matter movement addressing centuries of inequality in the Black community, facing racism on an individual scale all the way up to our national systems. I also acknowledge the discrimination and judgement that those in the LGBT+ community face; I stand with you in your identity. I can assure you that the work I do outside of the counseling room to practice allyship is an ongoing and necessary process. Because of this, I work from the perspective that I can never understand exactly everything you have been through - to say I could would be a disservice to your experiences. What I can do is understand the emotions that you are feeling as a result of your experiences; emotions are shared across the world and allow us to relate to one another without needing to entirely understand your pain.
