About My Clients
Have you gone through periods of feeling down, depressed, or hopeless? Have you been feeling on edge consistently and worrying about more than usual? Are you finding yourself burnt out and or always stressed out? I know exactly what you're feeling: the racing thoughts, lack of motivation, isolation from family/friends. These are the most common problems that my clients come to me for help with and together we can develop a personalized plan to help address them at the root.
My Background and Approach
I earned my Masters of Science in Social Work in 2016 from the University of Texas at Arlington with a specialization in Mental Health. My counseling background extends to working extensively with war veterans, people of color, LGBTQIA +, as well as others from traditionally disenfranchised backgrounds. My most common therapy cases are relationship/familial stress, depression, anxiety, and trauma. Studies show that without a strong therapeutic connection, most therapy is destined to fail. With that being the case, my number 1 priority is building a strong therapeutic relationship between us. I accomplish this by being honest, understanding, and most importantly non judgemental in my work as your therapist. We set your goals together, develop a road map on how we can achieve them together, and lastly celebrate each and every milestone along the way.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
The reason I decided to become a therapist was mainly due to my own mental health challenges growing up. Having had my own experiences with trauma as a child coupled with various run-ins with police brutality, clouded my vision of what it meant to be safe in todays world. Instead of sitting and letting those deep seated wounds fester, I decided to get help and found therapy through local agencies. My experience with therapists there gave me motivation to help other people who look like me or come from similar backgrouds as myself. I remain a staunch supporter of the black lives matter movement as well as other feminist and equality groups.
