I am intensively trained in DBT through Behavioral Tech, founded by Marsha Linehan, creator of DBT. I underwent two years of formal training and continue to seek out DBT consultation each week. In our practice, we offer several DBT skills groups, individual DBT, and phone coaching, and all of our providers participate in our in-house DBT consultation team to ensure that are clients are receiving the most informed and comprehensive care.
I was originally trained in MI almost 20 years ago and continue to use this approach today when working with substance use disorders, eating disorders, and other presentations too. I value the collaborative, respectful, and curious nature of this approach. With MI, clients and therapist work together to understand the pros and cons of certain behaviors, explore ambivalence, and empower clients to increase their motivation and capacity for change.
I was trained in NARM™ more recently, in 2021-2022, completing all requirements for Level 2 training. NARM helps folks with chronic, developmental, relational, or attachment trauma who struggle with emotion dysregulation, toxic shame, and difficulties in relating to self and others. It's a non-pathologizing model that uses top-down and bottom-up interventions to resolve emotional stuck points and increase a sense of agency in our lives.
I work with various types of anxiety, including generalized anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, panic, and more. I have specialized training in CBT, DBT, ACT, and ERP, therapies that are evidence-based in addressing symptoms of anxiety. My goal is to help you better understand your symptoms, work toward decreased suffering, and learn how to live a "life worth living" even when anxiety is present.
I'm a certified eating disorders specialist and have experience working with eating disorders at multiple levels of care. I help people understand the function that their eating disorders serve and move toward a healthier relationship with food and their bodies. A Certified Body TrustⓇ Provider, my approach is firmly rooted in Intuitive Eating and the Health at Every SizeⓇ approach, and I believe that a weight-inclusive framework is crucial to working with all eating disorders.
As a DBT therapist who has worked at hospitals and residential treatment centers, I have significant training and experience working with folks with chronic suicidality and nonsuicidial self-injury. My goal, ideally at an outpatient level, is to help people understand the function of self-harm and to learn other strategies for distress tolerance and emotion regulation. Over time, we tend to see a reduction in the frequency of self-harming urges and behaviors.
