I have a special interest in working with adults, couples, & families who have been impacted by substance use and dual diagnosis. For the last 5 years, I have worked as a substance use counselor & a mental health therapist providing individual and group therapy to adults suffering from substance use disorders & other mental health challenges. Additionally, I have worked with couples & family members whose loved one has struggled with a substance use disorder.
We can all agree the last few years have been strenuous on all of us. Now more than ever, kids are struggling with anxiety, depression, loneliness and identity formation as they integrate back into school environments with new routines. And at this age, kiddos may be pulling away, not sharing everything as they used to share. That can be scary! Therapy can help kids learn to identify and manage big emotions with a trusted adult, giving you (the guardian) a sense of ease.
Maybe you’ve started questioning your relationship to alcohol. Drinking has become almost necessary to enjoy events with others, but you don’t want it to be that way... But how do I even feel good sober? Struggles with alcohol, or any substance for that matter, are typically a symptom of something else, whether it be stress, trauma, depression, anxiety, etc. Substance use is NOT moral failing, it simply could mean some much needed attention to your inner world is needed.
Okay, so maybe you missed the warning signs. Your relationship used to bring you immense joy, now it's the biggest source of your distress. Even the thought of rebuilding the connection seems utterly overwhelming. Relationships are tough, and they can ebb and flow. Let's get through hard times together. Polyamory affimring!
