Accepting Clients

I am a Black queer licensed clinical social worker, mental health therapist, spiritual/inner wisdom coach, and a business owner.

Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Evanston, IL

About My Clients

My clients tend to be Black and Brown folx, the LGBTQIA community, and college students, though individuals from all walks of life are welcome into my therapy space. Some of my specialties include working with race-related stress and trauma, relationship concerns, building self-esteem and self-confidence, reconnecting to ancestral wisdom, and healing from past traumas. Clients who struggle with difficult families, relational anxieties, and self-betrayal/mistrust often find their way to me.

My Background and Approach

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, my passion for social justice and advocacy means the work is holistic and mindful of how systems of oppression impact wellbeing. My therapeutic style prioritizes building awareness, highlighting resilience and strength, and practicing methods of connection with self and others to create balance and meaning. My career has given me the opportunity to work with individuals from all walks of life including community mental health, the incarceration system, college and university mental health counseling, and guardianship and care management with older adults. Due to my varied experience, I have honed the skill of meeting clients where they are while challenging them to create meaningful lives despite systemic barriers and intergenerational traumas. Through a blend of psychodynamic, client-centered, feminist, and queer therapy theories, I am able to offer holistic mental health care and embodied healing.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am a firm believer in centering healing over treatment which means that my work integrates evidence-based western treatment with nonwestern and decolonized healing methods. I am a proud queer Black woman and have spent many years in community organizing and advocacy spaces. Most people would describe me as a social worker first, meaning I practice from a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, anti-oppressive, and liberation-focused lens. Above all, I believe in the healing power of healthy relationships and much of my work is relational including the ways I model self-care and boundaries with every client. Our practice website includes a mission statement where our values are clearly stated including the overarching mission to empower BIPOC and LGBTQIA individuals, a land acknowledgement in solidarity with our Indigenous communities, and support for those impacted by political decisions that cause harm to marginalized folks.
